I'd like to start with a couple of things covered in your profile. You mentioned some of your travels, what is the favorite place you have visited (or lived) and could you tell me a little more about the experience there?
I’m originally from Romania, so therefore from Eastern Europe. I love to remember my life from Romania. I spent almost 25 years there where I studied Economics and in parallel to that, I studied Arts. I worked full time as an economist and only part time, or the rest of my free time as an artist. This was frustrating for me; I love to paint-it truly is my life. Thus, when my husband got a job in Jerusalem, Israel, I felt like this was my moment of change.

I gave away my economics career and for 2 years I was unbearably content with my life because I did what I wished for- painting and also traveling (my two great goals)! I love Israel, the people who live there are extremely friendly - I have so many friends and even acquaintances that reside there. We rented an apartment in Jerusalem, near the Old City, also near the Jaffa Gate.

A lot of my paintings are inspired from the Old City, The Holy Land- like I like to call it. It is astounding to see how many beautiful flowers and gardens are in this dry country. After you go through the emptiness of the Judaic desert, you can take a marvelous soak in the Dead Sea. Israel was and still is a great inspiration for me. I also visited Greece and it is surprising how neighborly people are there. Another one of my trips was to Canada, where my husband and I have a lot of friends- the wilderness there didn’t cease to amaze me and it also didn’t stop from being one of my numerous muses. You can feel free there like the human soul. But nothing can ever be compared to Minnesota; I love to live here and it may sound sentimental but it is my true home. The quietness of it all, the kind and amiable people, the lakes, the never ending forests – it’s all that I need.

And finally one place I would like to go to would be Alaska, during the summer time most probably. Hopefully next summer….
I can completely relate to just losing time, there were a few times I'd be in a darkroom for hours and it would only feel like a few minutes. What is the longest painting session you can remember?
As long as I can remember, my most lengthy session was that of one night and another half of a day- when I painted like a crazy, that was the moment when I discovered how to do 3D metallic paintings with jewelry (it was a pleasant breakthrough if I might say). I remembered that my husband and my children went to sleep, and I went to my studio and I just didn’t know how and when the night had past. In the morning, my daughter asked me if I wanted some coffee. I drank some and took a small sandwich, then spent another 4 hours in my art world. I usually paint every evening and during the night, sometimes over the weekends, when my inspiration is the greatest.
Could you tell me a little more about how you got started as an artist?
I started when I was a kid, I can't remember very well when my first paintings/drawings were shown in a public display-I think it was in third grade.I painted all my college years, but because these years were under communist dictatorship (Ceausescu) I couldn't show my art to the public as much. The reason was that I didn't want to paint the dictator's portrait or some other paintings with communism accent.I remember that my religious paintings were even hidden when was a party at my house. But, this was during communist time in a communist country. So, my economics career was chosen for conjunctural and economic(money) reason during that period of time and the Artist path was for my soul and my mind.

I knew that I could chosen be an artist all my life, but I was telling myself: I will do what I will like if I can live a decent life from it.All the artists know how hard it is to be an artist if you can't sell your artwork. Now, I have this "comfort":if something will happen to my artistic career I can return to economics.

The time when I knew for sure that I could be a full time artist was when my little one was born, after we returned from Israel . You can say I was a full time artist for at least 5 years.I enjoy being with my children at home during the day and painting during the evening.I have 2 full jobs now: Mom and Artist.
